Thanks
Thanks to everyone about the feedback. I'm going to go with the wintersday red and make some tweaks to it.
Verene: Ah it's good to know that something good has come from the crash though. Maybe Photoshop was just telling me I needed a new direction, eh? lol
Ah. I have a love hate relationship with AI. I love art, but it's ridiculously expensive, and some of the instructors are so half-assed into their classes it's almost funny. :C That totally blows that they won't let you skip any classes. I agree that there were probably 4-5 that I could have easily passed over and not have missed anything. It's a for-profit school though, so you know how they are about their money! I'm actually talking to my counselor now about switching from animation to game art and design. I love to create, but the actual animation I find tedious. haha. T_T

Yeah, the inability to skip classes is very irritating. I also don't like that they have such a strict set of courses for each program and you cannot take anything outside of what they have set for you (I may have vented at my drawing and color teachers about the fact that I want to take Life Drawing but can't because it's not part of the graphic design program). With how expensive it is...yeah.
I wavered between GAD and GD, but finally decided that graphic design is where my skills lie, as well as what I like to do. I still intend to work in the game industry someday - I'd just rather be the one designing game logos and cover art and that sort of thing ^^ Funny thing is that all of my friends there are either GAD or Photo majors - I know very few people in the actual GD program XD

Going with what I already have partly done because I can't figure out what to draw for my other idea. So far summoning stone stuff, skill pendants/keychains, , skill bracelet, Night Falls and Flameseeker Prophecies books, plushies that I didn't use last year. I am going to make a new skill bar bracelet so could use some suggestions on what to use in it. Have these ones already prepped:

Let me start out by saying I kinda cheated with the process. I came in after the fact to mimic what the process was instead of taking snapshots along the way. So not 100% accurate, but close enough. Apologies.
Overall completion took roughly 4.5hrs. I'm about 70% happy with the way it came out. Don't have much more time to dedicate to it, maybe make some last minute tweaks like I usually do a few hours before submiting.

@Kiya what if you used one of the snowfighting skill bars? Pick your favourite proffesion ^^
@Arya that sounds so exciting :t Our highschool only offers Traditional Arts and an Arts and Crafts. And i learned somethings, but very little, because we only ever used watercolour paints. and I hate watercolour paints SOOOO much. I just never get the hang of it. We would probably spend like, 70% of the year watercolour painting, 10% doing random things, and then 20% doing pencil work. Which I didn't mind; we had our big independent "exam" drawing and a nice grid drawing project (mine was the Martha Stewart on my dA). But I dropped it because I couldn't stand doing any more watercolour. It would be pretty exciting to do art in college/university, though I couldn't imagine what I would learn.
Not from an egotistical "Im teh winz pro art!" point of view, but from an I can't fathom it because I've had to teach myself the essentials from day 1 and it would be wierd to learn from elsewhere.

So is it possible to sign up for Wintersday 2011 already? Kidding.
I'm impressed with the work everyone's done so far, it's really cool to see it from the side-lines this time around
Instead of participating myself, I thought I should help starters: http://www.guildmag.com/gmblitz-wintersday-art-contest
Anyway, good luck everyone in here and I hope to see a lot of you on the gw.com site!

@Thistle: You're so kind ^.^ I agree with arya that it needs some polishing the green shine though, but as it is now I don't think I can make it much better.
@Koreena: I understand you, movie maker is hell, Premiere Elements is too demanding for my computer and you need to download codecs to save out the files (wtf?!!) and they're either gigantic or in poor quality and very big. Movie maker keeps stopping to play the clips after I make the slightest change >_<
@Marshmallow: haha that'd make it all more interesting! ;P The white spots are supposed to be glittering in the snow. Maybe I should make it into a GIF to animate it glittering :P
@Frostkisses: I'm finnished with the drawing, but I spent two whole days trying to get the video together! Soon I'll only use still pics and scrap the video material completely! X_x
@Flying Ninja Monk: I'm doing the video sorta like my progress diary. It might turn into more than one video if it goes longer than 10 min :/ 18h work is hard to cram into 10 min. Especially when the videoclips from the streams makes all the editors crash all the time
@Perynne: Oh lard would I need some help with this mess haha! I can't even edit the clips to cut out what I need from the hours long streams; it ll just crashes or can't save the clip in a decent size and/or quality D:
@InfestedHydralisk: I'm getting it as we speak. In the worse case, I'll just have to wait until next week when I have gotten and assembled all of the components to my new computer. I'm turning into a video editing RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO here; I try EVERY program I can :P
@Arya: I think you should let grenth have a green wintersday outfit, suits his "colour theme" better :P
@Magic: I really like what you did with her smile!!! Will be lovely to see how you'll make her eyes! *curious to the brim*

If you want to animate it, Gemini, I'd suggest against using a GIF, as the file size would be huge and it'd cut down on the quality of the image a lot. That's something that would be better done with Flash, probably.

Arya: I really LOVE what you did with Grenth and Dwayna in the more "Wintersday" look with the red/white clothing/armor. I did like the old one a hell of a lot, but I think that the new one really speaks Wintersday more, and it definitely stands out. I wanted to let you know that!
Magik: You're welcome and Thank you!

Koreena: THOSE SKILL BAR BRACELETS ARE AMAZING!!!! I totally want one as a prize if I win something; I was wondering though would you be able to make a Rit Skill bar bracelet? I absolutely love Rits, my main character is a Rit, and I LOVE how some of the rit skills look. You have a really nice talent of making jewelry and plushies.
[These are 8 skills that of course I do not use as a build, but I think that their icons really stand out a lot (at least to me) and I think would be awesome on a silver bracelet.

-- I think that the yellow around DWG could be more golden like the elites in the game but otherwise, yeah, I like the icons of those a lot ]
I know that I didn't see any Rit skills on the ones that you had prepped, but I think that it would be awesome if you did that.

@Nemesis What are you planning on doing for the background? If it's dark I think the snow could get messy but have a great effect if done carefully. If it's light the snow could still work, but the background wouldnt necessary feel connected to the foreground

Haha, background. Sorry, inside joke in AP art.
Ugh, well I am leaving it white, but I was hoping to add the swirling snow to make it seem as though there is still "background depth" in the picture. You know what I mean? I guess I'll just have to play around with it more later. I'm still working on it, but it's kinda driving me nuts >.< I am happy with how it looks so far though... just I feel like there could also be something added to the space right above the Mountain Tops, but I don't know what...

hmm, well what you could just try doing is get a scrap piece of paper or two, and try and do some detailed effects in small proportions and see how they would look by comparison. Perhaps try a White with snow on it and a black with snow on it for starters? If you posted the different options we could help decided aswell if you're in a rut.
I only suggest maybe a night-time type background because the way I'm imagining it Its not too distracting but still feels more occupied. it would also be a nice, strong contrast to the statue. But I can see how it wouldnt work because of the way lighting is already done in the pic.
I agree something should be added nonetheless :P

Looks nice, Nemesis! I have no real suggestions for backgrounds - I'm terrible at those - but the comments on smudges amused me immensely. In my drawing class I'd always tease my friend Kristen for managing to smudge the heck out of everything she was working on. Even if she wasn't using pencil.

@Zidane: Wow, the charr looks amazing! And I love how he is holding the little mouse. You've also managed to do fun snow effects. Perhaps the only thing I would criticize is that there isn't much of a Wintersday feeling to it, it mostly looks like a charr playing in the snow. Still, it's a pretty awesome charr playing in the snow.
@Marsh: Awwww, kitty globe <3 And hehe, yeah, I haven't touched livestream yet because I think I'd find it confusing too. My computer can barely handle Photoshop at the sizes I draw, so adding another program to that.... will most likely make computer die.
@Nemesis: I think you should add swirlies or something. Right now the sky looks pretty blank between the gods and Melandru's statue. Either some kind of snow/magic swirlies, or dramatic looking big fluffy clouds. Clouds are always good too.
And like Death by an Arrow suggested, you could try sketching it out on a separate piece of paper or something, then see if it will work with the final piece by either looking at them with a light box or equivalent (such as against the ceiling light), or then just by using old fashioned cut 'n' paste.
@Koreena: Welcome! Glad to see you entering too, the arts and crafts side was woefully small until now.
@Fierce: Because contests tend to get all the talented people in one place? Check out the rest of the threads in Nolani, there are plenty of talented people there who aren't around much for the Workshop.
@Tommy's: Awww, the elf is so cute. I think a slightly disgruntled face would work better, especially if everyone else was cheerful. Kind of like "why am I stuck holding this oversized carrot D:<".
@Ninja Monk: I don't think there's a way to change the lines anymore. You'll just have to re-draw it or erase the parts you don't like. :/ Or then just do the rest of the lineart in the same style. Even though Photoshop helps out a lot by giving us good tools, it still doesn't completely erase human mistakes. And the only way to get through it is to just sigh, swear at the computer a little, then just get on with re-doing it.
